When is the right time to book a newborn shoot?

First of all congratulations! If you are reading this it probably means you (or your partner) are either pregnant or already had your little one - such exciting times. Deciding when to book your newborn shoot really depends on your preferences, so if you were looking at a definite answer then I do apologise.. But what I can give you is some tips to find out what the right time might be for you.

The Early Days

Having your little one, and yourselves, photographed in the first few days after delivery can be so magical. The raw beauty and excitement of this new life and the new dynamics of a family really comes through in these shoots. It’s a time that often is quickly forgotten and can be quite a blur when looking back on. If you want to make sure you remember your little one's face and tiny hands and toes as they were at the beginning, then this is the right time for you.

Settled In

After week 2 you are probably getting the hang of things a bit more. The potential hospital visits and close family visits will have most likely taken place by now. If you had any pregnancy swelling, this will have gone down by now and you might even have a chance to wash your hair, if you’re lucky. So if you want to make sure you are feeling a little more confident in your pictures and in caring for your newborn, then this could be perfect timing for a photoshoot that captures your family.

Hello World

From week 6 your baby will start to smile and be quite alert when it comes to responding and tracking things with their eyes. As I like to say, they really become little people here and will start to show more and more of their personality. Technically on the edge of being a ‘newborn’ your baby will still be very little at this point, but if all works out you should be able to get a smile captured. And really.. isn’t that one of the most exciting things of those first few weeks. If you agree then I’d say wait until around week 6 or up to book your photoshoot and I’ll do my best to capture their cheeky grins.

Whatever time you choose I can guarantee will be an amazing time to capture and look back on.
